Incumbent Director of Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies

Since the CHIBS was founded in 1985, the incumbent Director, Ven. Guo Jing is the 5th Director. Ven. Guo Jing is highly versedin academic Buddhism and is an accomplished meditator and skillful meditation instructor.

Upon graduating from the Department of Chinese Literature, Soochow University, she took refuge under Master Sheng Yen and became Ven. Guo Jing. After serving as the Director-in-Chief in Nung Chan Monastery for ten years, she went to Bukkyo University in Japan and received her Ph. D. degree in September 2003. After Ven. Guo Jing returned to Taiwan, she served as the Vice Dean of the Dharma Drum Sangha University, Assistant Professor in CHIBS, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at National Chung Hsing University.

Ven. Guo Jing left the position at Dharma Drum Sangha University and became the Director of CHIBS and Assistant Professor in DILA in 2008. She became a Professor and the Deputy President of DILA in 2022 and became the Dean of the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Science.

Ven. Guo Jing follows Master Sheng Yen’s instruction to take Chinese Buddhism experts’ advice to accomplish the concurrent missions of CHIBS sequentially and create a new arena for researching and spreading Chinese Buddhism.
