Alumni Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Culture Exchange Translation

(漢藏佛教文化交流翻譯研究班)

CHIBS engaged in a project with the Mongolian and Tibetan Affairs Commission to offer the  “Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Culture Exchange Program” since Sep. 2001. The goal of this program was to facilitate the cultural and Buddhist interactions between the Chinese and the Tibetans. The first three years focused on the Tibetan monastics’ abilities to listen to, speak, read and write Chinese. Since 2004, the goal was to instill Sino-Tibetan translation abilities in the participating monastics in the hope that the Lamas could give Dharma talks on Tibetan Buddhism in Chinese in the future. By the end of the program in 2007, 52 Lamas from four different Tibetan Buddhist traditions attended the program. (For further details, please check “The Tibetan Buddhist Studies Program and the Sino-Tibetan Buddhist Culture Exchange Program” in The 30th Anniversary of Chung-hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies.
