◎Grant for Book-length Monographs on Chinese Buddhism

The Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies is launching an ongoing funding project to facilitate research and publication of book-length manuscripts on Chinese Buddhism. CHIBS is now accepting proposals. To be eligible for grant funding, projects must focus on Chinese Buddhism from the Song to the Qing dynasties, but research methodologies may vary. Ancillary topics such as Confucianism, Daoism, Chinese history, politics, and so forth may also be addressed.

The Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies—an academic wing of Dharma Drum Mountain Foundation—is one of the world's most prestigious Buddhist institutions dedicated to the academic study of Buddhism. Among its many accomplishments are the Chung-Hwa Buddhist Journal and the digitization of the Chinese Buddhist canon (CBETA). Now Taiwan's Chung-Hwa Institute will act to establish a new funding initiative designed to advance the academic study of Chinese Buddhism. This grant project memorializes Venerable Dr. Sheng Yen, founder of the Chung-Hwa Institute of Buddhist Studies and Dharma Drum Buddhist College, and carries out his vow: to benefit the society and all the beings with Chinese Buddhism.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in their fields of research. Recent graduates may apply, but published dissertations won't be considered eligible for the grant (please read the detailed project announcement).
